Summary Description: Under direction of the non-profit's Board of Directors, performs a wide range of difficult-to-complex administrative activities related to finances; staffing and personnel operations; discretionary activities that serve to support effective business operations; coordinates and develops the most effective services to the children in care; uses considerable independent judgement in decisions that influence operations; advises and assists the Board of Directors in planning, policy, and operations matters.

 

The Executive Director shall have the following responsibilities:

1) Responsibility for compliance with Virginia Standards for Licensed Children's Residential Facilities and other applicable standards and programs which might be introduced;

2) Responsibility for all personnel;

3) Responsibility for overseeing the facility's operation in its entirety, including the approval of the design of the structured program of care and its implementation;

4) Responsibility for the facility's financial integrity; and

5) Responsibility for the overall spiritual leadership of the ministry as a whole.

 

Knowledge: Principles and practices of business administration including personnel practices and employment laws, program budgeting, fiscal management practices, office procedures and business operating systems, the appropriate methods and means of dealing with human behavior situations in a variety of business circumstances and likewise appropriate methods and means of dealing with children from families in crisis.

 

Skills: Communicating effectively, verbally and in writing, in a diverse range of audiences and settings to include community partners, donors, churches, families and others; persuasion and negotiation of conflicts and problems assessing operational, program, staffing, and fiscal needs; interpreting legal documents and government regulations; evaluating fiscal and financial reports, forms, and data; identifying and resolving administrative problems; delegating responsibility and achieving results through staff leadership and maintaining order in an environment of changing priorities.

 

Background Clearance: FBI background check; Sworn Disclosure Statement and Child Protective Services report as required by the Department of Social Services; pre-employment drug screen; possession of or able to obtain an appropriate Virginia driver's license and possess a good driving record.

 

Education & Experience: The Executive Director shall have at least the following:

1) A master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling or administration and a combination of two (2) years professional experience working with children and in administration and supervision; a doctorate or master's degree from an accredited college or university plus five (5) years of experience in a social service agency or program including one (1) year in an administrative, supervisory, or consultative capacity is PREFERRED; OR

2) A baccalaureate degree in social work, psychology, counseling or administration and three (3) years of combined professional experience with children, and in administration and supervisory experience; OR

3) A baccalaureate degree and a combination of four (4) years professional experience in a children's residential facility and in administration and supervision.
