JOB DESCRIPTION
Roles of Leadership
The Executive Director is responsible to see that the four “Roles of Leadership” as outlined in the Executive Leadership Target are executed with excellence.
The four Roles of Leadership are: Visionary Strategist, Team Developer, Ministry Developer and Resource Steward. It is unlikely that any one person including the Executive Director would be gifted to lead all four “Roles of Leadership” therefore:
Visionary Strategist
Create and Communicate Vision – the creation and communication of Vision is primarily the responsibility of the Executive Director, done in consultation with and under the counsel of the Board.
Kingdom Perspective Decisions – all chapter decisions should be Kingdom Perspective decisions. The Executive Director is responsible for creating and communicating this Kingdom Perspective. The Kingdom Perspective must be communicated regularly at all levels of the organization and by all stake holders of the ministry.
Shape & Execute Strategy – development and shaping of strategy may be done by any number of chapter leaders including the Executive Director, staff, a board member or a team made up of staff and/or board members. The decision as to who is responsible for shaping and executing strategy should be based on gift mix, skill level and talent.
Team Developer
Demonstrate Christ-like Character – all staff, board and volunteers should lead from a position of Christ-like Character. The Executive Director must be the foremost example of this Christ-like Character – inspiring others to walk in a manner worthy of Christ.
Mentor & Coach – all staff, board and volunteers must have the mindset of learning and teaching. This is exemplified through a position of being teachable and being willing to teach through mentoring or coaching relationships.” The Executive Director must be the lead in being teachable and encouraging others in their mentoring and coaching.
People Selection & Development – a team of staff and/or board or a single staff member (Executive Director or someone empowered by him/her) should be responsible for the chapter’s people selection and development process.
Ministry Developer
Authentic Christ-sharing Relationships Focused – all board, staff and volunteers should be engaged in Authentic Christ-sharing Relationships. It is the role of the Executive Director to make sure that this remains the focus of the chapter.
Create Missional Communities – all board, staff and volunteers are responsible to create Missional Communities. The Executive Director must lead in this area by creating, maintaining and growing Missional Communities them self.
Plan, Implement & Evaluate Ministry Outcomes – all staff and volunteers are responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating ministry outcomes within their specific areas of ministry. The Executive Director or someone he/she empowers is accountable for the development, implementation and evaluation of the chapter’s ministry plan based on outcomes adopted by the board.
Resource Steward
Fund Development – the Executive Director is responsible for the development and implementation of the chapter’s Fund Development Plan. He/she will involve board and staff in the development and implementation of the Fund Development Plan. Staff and board will have responsibility for certain donor relationships based on the Fund Development Plan.
Operations, including Financial – the Executive Director and/or someone he/she empowers is responsible for seeing that all Risk Management protocols and Safety Standards are followed throughout the chapter, to timely track and report ministry and financial activities, to maintain YFC IMPACT, to maintain all local and regulatory filings and reporting.
Asset Management – the Executive Director or someone he/she empowers is responsible for seeing that financial controls are in place, that property owned by the chapter is used, managed and maintained for the sake of the mission and that insurance is purchased where necessary.
