Youth and Young Adult Ministries Coordinator

Grace United Methodist Church (www.GraceUMC.org) in Gaithersburg, MD, is seeking a part-time coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministries to join our mission of engaging the community with the love of Christ.  The Y/YA Ministries Coordinator will be responsible for leading and overseeing the spiritual growth and development of youth, grades 6-12, and encouraging young adults on their path.  The ideal candidate will have a theology and values that align with those of Grace UMC and a passion for building faith-filled relationships with students, families, and the entire church community. 

The Y/YA coordinator will work closely with the Senior Pastor and an adult support team and will report to the Senior Pastor.

Part-time position of 15 hours/week with a possibility for growth.  Salary range: $19,000-20,000.  

Responsibilities:

• Build relationships with youth and their families and other adult lay leaders.

• Encourage youth to take the next natural step in their journey of Christian discipleship, including involvement in worship, leadership, and educational opportunities.
• Continue and further develop an active youth ministry, “United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF)” for 6th – 12th grades, providing a solid framework for life-long discipleship as a Christian.  Engage with youth ministries of other nearby United Methodist Churches.
• Coordinate leadership of weekly youth Sunday school.
• Develop a Young Adult program, possibly in collaboration or coordination with other United Methodist Churches.
• Recruit, train, and support adult lay volunteers to disciple and provide spiritual care and programming for youth.
• Mentor and provide opportunities for youth to lead in programming
• Be an active leader and participant in the life of the church, including worship, church-wide events, and other programs.

Specific Duties:

• Plan and lead or coordinate leadership of weekly Sunday afternoon (4:00-6:00 PM) UMYF gatherings.
• Plan and coordinate regular service and fellowship activities.
• Plan and lead or coordinate leadership of weekly Sunday school.
• Plan and lead (with adult lay and clergy) at least one weekend UMYF retreat plus accompany youth to IGNITE youth conference in Ocean City on a weekend in March
• Prepare for and participate in an annual week-long summer work camp with the youth and adult lay leaders.
• Serve as coordinating point of contact with other local United Methodist Churches for collaborative gatherings and activities.
